Wilco Alert!

The four or five readers of this blog know that I am wild about Wilco. So, you can imagine how excited I am that Wilco is the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend, on Saturday, March 1. Set your DVR or VCR, or simply stay up late to watch them do their beautiful thing on network television. Ellen Page of Juno fame hosts.

  1. Oh, bummer! I missed this. I fully intended to watch it, tuning to NBC on our hotel TV, but apparently succumbing to sleep before SNL even started. How was it?

  2. Wilco was great, but Ellen Page as host was a huge disappointment. Wilco performed two songs from their latest record, Sky Blue Sky. First, they played Hate it Here, which I love. Thankfully, Pat Sansone played keyboards, so we didn’t have to see him hamming it up on guitar. Drummer Glen is rocking some long, 70s-ish hair, which was cool. For the second song, Tweedy came out in a spectacular white Nudie suit, like Gram Parsons (another absolute favorite of mine) used to wear. They played Walken, which is famous now because of the VW commercial with the crying baby in the backseat, and did a fine job on it. On his guitar strap, Tweedy wore photo buttons of each of his sons, and a big Obama ’08 button, too. Loved that because both Hilary Clinton and Rudy Guliani had appeared as guests on the show.
